Mikan Tsumiki

Mikan is an easily bullied girl, in that she almost begs to BE bullied. Desperate for love and attention, Mikan will let people do anything and everything to her as long as they give her a moment of time. She'll even offer suggestions for people if she feels she has wronged them and needs to apologize. She's offered to strip, do embarrassing poses of animals, etc, in order to atone for what she thinks are horrible wrongs. These 'wrongs' can be as little as wasting someone's time or not being valuable in the current situation. She's constantly apologizing for things, even things she knows are beyond her control.

 

She has little to no self confidence in herself, and assumes that everyone around her automatically dislikes her. She feels she has no reason to be liked, and so she's always surprised whenever people show her an ounce of kindness. The one area she does have confidence in is her nursing ability, a talent she honed treating her own wounds given to her by bullies and her own family. She actively enjoys nursing as well, as she has 'power' over the sick and injured, and they are the only people weaker than herself. But there is a good heart inside of her, as she doesn't want to hurt others or seek revenge on those who have bullied her. She does genuinely care for others, and is capable of standing up for others if she feels they've been wronged.

 

While her nerves are constantly rattled, noted by her stammering, she does find the strength to speak up when she feels its most important - such as in the murder trials, where she was noted to shout to prevent her fellow classmates from making a grave mistake about the details of the crime. In addition, while she does crave both good and bad attention, she doesn't actually enjoy being bullied. She gets upset at Hiyoko's cruel comments, and is glad to be on the island, as she no longer gets beaten or burned with a cigarette, etc. Yet her warped mind tells her the only way people will pay attention to her is with negativity, so sometimes she'll even up her clumsiness in order to land in an awkward, humiliating pose, such as exposing her panties. If she was put in a peaceful environment with good people, she has the potential to learn and understand she doesn't need to constantly beg for attention or justify people bullying her.

 

But while she is being taken from a time without her Junko memories, those hold another point of 'potential' for her. When she finds someone that legitimately cares for her, she's tempted to keep them all for herself, so they don't abandon her. In that same vein, she'll do whatever it takes to make that person happy, even if it means doing something horrible. Under Junko's "love", she was willing to kill and spread despair if it meant it would please her, even though Junko was already dead. Someone loving her, and returning that love, means more to her than anything else in the world. She's even willing to die for them.

After the party, which is her memory gets altered, Mikan gets a message on her tablet (the morbid one keeping track of all the kills and such on the island). It appears to be from URSULA, but due to interference from Monokuma, only bits and pieces of the message get through. As far as Mikan can understand, the classmates will be rescued, in exchange for working on Ursula's mission. Delighted, Mikan runs to tell the others!

 

... Buuut her usual clumsiness kicks in, and when she runs back into the party, she trips and smashes her head against one of Ibuki's gigantic speakers. When she wakes up, she's with Ursula, and is informed that due to Monokuma's attacks, they were only able to rescue a handful of students - herself, Hinata, and Souda. The whereabouts of the others are unknown.
